Dr Salomé van Coller-Peter is head of the University of Stellenbosch Business School’s internationally accredited MPhil in Management Coaching programme. She is an industrial psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She is also an internationally qualified professional coach who works with clients to determine strategy and achieve alignment of their vision, values and performance. Her dual training-coaching approach is aimed at the transformation of individuals, groups and organisations. She has been coaching and mentoring of executives in various industries and from various continents for over 20 years. She is also involved in the setting of ethical standards for coaches and mentors in South Africa.
Dr Van Coller-Peter has a special interest in the coaching of project leaders and teams. She believes there needs to be alignment within teams in order to deliver on strategies and mandates. She follows a mixed-method approach to coaching. Team coaching and one-on-one coaching are combined to facilitate agreement in terms of the strategy and culture of an organisation.
She therefore uses the coaching process to firstly align the organisation’s strategy with its values. Once this has been done, the culture and values can be translated into leadership practices aimed at bringing about better decision making and commitment to action. In essence, the combination of individual and team coaching can lead to the development of ethical and resilient project leaders capable of facilitating sustainable shifts in the overall corporate culture and, ultimately, performance.
Dr Van Coller-Peter holds an MCom in Industrial Psychology (University of Johannesburg) and a PhD in Coaching (Middlesex University, London). She is the author of the book Coaching leadership teams: Getting organisational culture aligned. She has also written various journal articles and delivered papers at international conferences on coaching.
